Release Notes: Visit 5.32

Hotlink Improvement

In line with industry best-practice, when following a hotlink (a link containing parameters to open an existing registration within the context of a form), we’ve added a ‘Continuebutton to proceed past the welcome page.

This is a change to the former behaviour which was to open the form directly on the first page.

By nature, this process has a vastly lower overhead on our systems since the full registration data doesn’t get loaded until requested by the registrant. The welcome page can be rendered to multiple devices with very little overhead.

The rationale for this change is to protect the availability of our systems and servers to all our users, in the case that large numbers hotlinks are opened simultaneously by automated processes. For example we encounter this with 3rd party systems which test the validity of hotlinks by opening them from software, rather than a human-initiated action.
Note the text of the ‘Continue‘ button is available as a resource under event translations.

Enhanced security across all payment service providers (PSPs)

As part of our ongoing commitment to security and data protection we have restricted visibility of potentially sensitive information when configuring Payment Gateways (note that this area of Visit has only ever been visible to users with Shop permission).

Although the parameters required vary between the various supported gateways, a common approach has been taken to hiding anything which could be considered sensitive.

Within the user interface, Visit now only displays the first portion of sensitive information; the remainder is hidden. Displaying the initial characters is intended to assist users in identifying which connection details are in use.

These updates align with industry best practices and reinforce the security of sensitive connection details for payment systems.

Service Centre

Record creation time now available in Service Centre

To improve visibility and data tracking, the creation time of Service Centre records is now accessible when navigating into a record’s details.

Creation time is now visible within the visitors’ Registration details section.

Visit Connect

Enhanced Visit Connect experience

The scan button will be removed five days after an event concludes, preventing exhibitors from mistakenly scanning connections into a past event.

This helps ensure that all connections are made within the correct event time frame, reducing confusion and the need for manual connection transfers. As a result, exhibitors will maintain cleaner data, while support teams will experience fewer requests related to connection adjustments.

Visit JSON API

Partner reference field now visible in Visitor endpoint

To assist clients in integration with 3rd party systems, the API has been extended to include additional properties relating to parent companies where visitors are part of the exhibiting team (team members).

Including the partner reference field here will reduce or eliminate the need to also work with the partners endpoint, therefore streamlining integrations.

Note that reference is a property of the partner contact, rather than the partner (a contact may take place in multiple events through different partner records. The new JSON structure below reflects this. You may also refer to the schema available in the online documentation at https://api.visitcloud.com/create/docs

Existing properties have been retained, so the returned JSON is fully compatible with existing integrations.

Organisation – Accounts & Permissions

Previously, updating a portfolio required Account Management permissions. This led some organisers to grant overly broad access just to manage portfolios, creating unnecessary security risks.

To balance security and usability, starting with Release 5.31:

  • Users with Event Write permissions can now assign a portfolio when:
    • Creating a new event (an event is considered “new” for up to 1 hour after creation).
    • Cloning an existing event.
  • After the one hour period has expired, portfolio management (e.g., editing or updating) still requires Account Management permissions.

Search Server Improvements

We’ve enhanced search, indexing, and suggestion capabilities across Visit Create, Visit Connect, and Visit Discover to deliver faster, more accurate, and scalable results.
